VELO SPORTS CENTER GOES DARK FOR EARTH HOUR

CARSON, Calif. (Saturday, March 28, 2015) – Today, VELO Sports Center at StubHub Center will join millions of people and organizations worldwide in “going dark” for World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, an international event in support of the environment. From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. PT, the VELO Sports Center, a world class indoor velodrome located on site, will turn off its non-essential lights and invite experienced cyclists to join in an Earth Hour ride on the indoor cycling track.  While the lights are down, riders will wear neon and affix neon lights to their bikes as a symbolic call to action to protect our planet.

As part of a global Earth Hour campaign organized by AEG 1EARTH, AEG’s industry-leading corporate sustainability program, VELO Sports Center joins more than 40 AEG Facilities-affiliated venues in 33 cities, seven countries and four continents across the globe in celebrating its commitment to the environment.

To further raise awareness of the critical environmental challenges facing our world, VELO Sports Center will promote its participation in Earth Hour via @VELOSportsCenter on Twitter and through the official Facebook page.

“We are thrilled to participate in Earth Hour here at the VELO Sports Center,” notes Adam Duvendeck, VELO Sports Center Director. “We wanted to do something that would really engage people so we invited our members out to do what they love: cycling. It’s a great way for us to take advantage of our position in the community to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire people to take action.”

Earth Hour is designed to show the power each one of us has to make a difference and demonstrate the collective strength of these small actions. Earth Hour started in just one city in 2007 and has spread to more than 7,000 cities covering all seven continents. The annual event takes place from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. across all time zones and includes countless global landmarks, from the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the Empire State Building in New York to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

“AEG has many initiatives to engage our guests and employees in sustainability,” said John Marler, AEG’s Senior Director of Energy and Environment. “We place a strong emphasis on Earth Hour each year because it enables our very visible venues around the world to make a strong statement about the urgency of environmental issues.”

In 2010, AEG established a set of 2020 environmental performance goals across five issue areas, including energy and climate, water, waste, responsible purchasing, and education. In 2015, the company will release its fourth AEG 1EARTH Environmental Sustainability Report, which will provide an update on progress towards AEG’s 2020 goals and share stories of AEG’s involvement Earth Hour and other environmental events worldwide.
