U.S. PARALYMPICS: Cycling National Team to Attend Track Camp at The Home Depot Center

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 6, 2007) - The 2007 U.S. Paralympics Cycling National Team will be attending a track camp at the ADT Event Center at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., April 11-14. The camp follows on the heels of an earlier road camp in Chula Vista, California.

Among the eight participants are two California residents: Kelly Crowley (Redwood City) and Anthony Zahn (Riverside).

Crowley, a former competitive swimmer, holds world records in both the 200-meter freestyle and the 400-meter individual medley. Crowley, who is an arm amputee, competed in the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece, where she won gold medals in the 400-meter freestyle and 400-meter medley relays.

Zahn, an active cyclist since high school, was born with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Disease, a hereditary disorder marked by slowly progressive muscle weakness in the lower extremities. Zahn is aiming for a spot on the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team.

Joining them will be six other members from the cycling team:
Greta Neimanas (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Barb Buchan (Bend, Ore.)
Sam Kavanagh (Bozeman, Mont.)
Mike Farrell (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Karissa Whitsell (Bend, Ore.)
Michael Forresto (Greenlawn, N.Y.)

All eight participants are vying for a spot on the 2008 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team that will compete at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, China.

In a late addition, California resident Lana Atchley (Carlsbad) will attend the camp to serve as a pilot for four-time Paralympic Games medalist Karissa Whitsell. Atchley, a competitive cyclist since 2004, was a contestant on NBC's Fear Factor in 2002.
