The Home Depot Center to host Camp For Kids with LA Galaxy Foundation and players on Tuesday, plus Olympic Day Celebration on Wednesday

CARSON, CALIFORNIA (Monday, June 21, 2010) - The Home Depot Center, an AEG Facility, will welcome more than 250 kids to its 125-acre complex this week for two community-related events. On Tues., June 22, The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation and the LA Galaxy Foundation will host its first summer Camps for Kids, and on Wed., June 23, the Southern California Olympians Association and Connie Cycling will celebrate Olympic Day.

Camps for Kids features sports clinics for more than 150 kids and a visit from LA Galaxy players Chris Birchall and Todd Dunivant, and Wednesday's Olympic Day celebration includes appearances by 10 Olympians, including John Naber, Peter Vidmar, Mark Crear and Connie Paraskevin. Tues., June 22: Camps for Kids presented by The Home Depot Center & LA Galaxy Foundations

The LA Galaxy Foundation will join forces with The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation to focus on fun, fitness and soccer by hosting their annual Camps for Kids. Camps for Kids is an opportunity for approximately 150 children ages 7-10 to participate in a camp that features soccer drills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, and small sided games as well as fitness tips. This will be the first of three Camps for Kids that the Foundations will host this year.

The first edition of Camps for Kids will feature a visit from Galaxy midfielder Chris Birchall and defender Todd Dunivant.

Galaxy Soccer Camps' staff will provide instruction and basic soccer skills for the camp. Athletes Performance, the official training partner of the Galaxy, will demonstrate how to properly warm-up before any physical activity, talk to the kids about the importance of hydration and host a physical fitness station.

In addition to donating Olympic pin sets for the camp gift bags, Procter & Gamble will have its Crest Squeeze and Tide Soccer speed kick on site for the kids to test their shot. Sensible Portions will be providing samples for each gift bag as well as for lunch. The American Heart Association's empower ME Movement will also be on site to provide healthy eating tips and give-a-ways that promote healthy choices.

Wed., June 23: The Home Depot Center, Olympian Connie Paraskevin and the Southern California Olympians Association Honor 2010 Olympic Day in Carson

The Home Depot Center, an Official U.S. Olympic Training Site, will commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games at 2010 Olympic Day which is observed annually on June 23 around the world. Five-time United States Olympian and 1988 track cycling bronze medalist Connie Paraskevin, in conjunction with the Southern California Olympians Association, will host The Home Depot Center's official 2010 Olympic Day celebration and sports clinics, to honor the Olympic ideals of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship, while promoting fitness and a healthy well-being.

The City of Carson is also issuing a City of Carson Proclamation to honor Olympic Day 2010 in Carson on June 23.

Olympians John Naber (1976 USA Olympic Swim Team; four gold medals, one silver), Peter Vidmar (1980, 1984 USA Olympic Gymnastics Team; two gold medals, 1 silver) and Mark Crear (1996, 2000 USA Olympic Track and Field Team; one silver, one bronze) will visit with more than 100 kids from local community groups, including Carson Parks and Recreation, and lead sports clinics on the soccer field.

Paraskevin, and her non-profit, Connie Cycling, operates the LA 84 Foundation Track Cycling program at The Home Depot Center Velodrome.

Other Olympians who are scheduled to attend and participate in the sports clinics include Sinjin Smith (volleyball), Tairia Flowers (softball), Maria Garcia-Cruz (speed skating), Chris Duplanty (water polo), Cathy Marino-Bradford (canoeing/kayaking), Rusty Smith (speed skating), Sammy Lee (diving), Tanya Dubnicoff (cycling) and several others.
