GALAXY SEEK THIRD CHAMPIONSHIP AS MLS CUP PLAYOFFS BEGIN: The LA Galaxy return to The Home Depot Center this Sunday to play the second leg of the Western Conference Semifinal series against the Seattle Sounders FC. In the first leg, the Galaxy beat the Sounders, 1-0, in Seattle on Sun., Oct. 31. The Galaxy will host Seattle in the return leg of the series on Sun., Nov. 7 at The Home Depot Center. If the Galaxy win or draw that game, they will advance to the Western Conference Championship and host the winner of the Real Salt Lake / FC Dallas series on Sun., Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. If the Galaxy lose by two goals or more this Sunday, the Sounders will advance to the Western Conference Championship, while a one-goal Seattle victory would send the series to 30 minutes of extra time, followed by penalty kicks if necessary. The Galaxy is on a quest to win their third MLS Cup in club history. LA previously won the Cup in 2002 and 2005, both times beating the New England Revolution, 1-0, in extra time. This year, MLS Cup is being played at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, November, 21 at 5:30 p.m., with ESPN and Galavision carrying all of the action live. Immediately after the season, the club will depart for Australia to take part in a postseason friendly against the Newcastle United Jets of the A-League. The game, which will kick off at 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 27, will be played at EnergyAustralia Stadium in Newcastle, Australia. Local broadcast information TBA. CHIVAS USA TRAINS IN NOVEMBER, STARTS PREPARATIONS FOR 2011: Chivas USA’s 2010 season has come to a close, with the team missing the playoffs after four consecutive seasons in the postseason. However, the Red-and-White will continue training in November as the team starts its preparations for the 2011 MLS season. In November, the team will continue its search for a new head coach, protect players from the Expansion Draft, prepare for the MLS SuperDraft, and much more. BATTLE OF THE HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BANDS RETURNS NOV. 20: The 2010 Battle of the High School Marching Bands will return to The Home Depot Center on Sat., Nov. 20 after a one-year hiatus. Tickets are on sale now for $10, and are available online at www.homedepotcenter.com and at The Home Depot Center Box Office, open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A portion of the event proceeds will go towards helping fund music and arts education programs across the U.S. The event features eight high school marching bands who will battle it out on the stadium field “Southern Show Style.”  Joining the 2006 and 2008 champion Inglewood High School Marching Band from Inglewood, Calif. will be three other high schools from the Los Angeles area; Compton High School (Compton, Calif.), Crenshaw High School (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Dominguez High School (Compton, Calif.), plus four schools from out of state; Lithonia High School (Lithonia, Georgia), James S. Rickards High School  (Tallahassee, Florida), Stephen F. Austin High School (Houston, Texas) and Clifton J. CIF STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL GAMES CLOSE OUT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL IN DECEMBER:  The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) will crown high school football state champions Fri., Dec. 17 and Sat., Dec. 18 at The Home Depot Center. A team from Northern California will face a team from Southern California in each of five divisions.  Games times on Friday are 4 p.m. (Division IV); and 7:30 p.m. (Division I). Saturday’s schedule is 12 p.m. (Division III), 3:30 p.m. (Division II); and 7:30 p.m. (Open Division). Tickets for the Bowl Games are $15 for adults and $8 for high school students (with ASB card), children and seniors. A separate ticket is required for each day. All seats are general admission. Tickets can be purchased at The Home Depot Center Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets or www.ticketmaster.com. Other game-day events include the UCA/UDA State High School Cheerleading and Dance Championships and the CIF/NIKE Football Coaches Clinic. VELODROME HOSTS ROAD RIDERS, INTERNATIONAL TRAINING: The Home Depot Center Velodrome will offer new road cycling trainings this month, including an endurance motor paced workout, time trial sessions and setup services, using the Velodrome to perfect aerodynamics on road bicycles. In addition, the Velodrome will host international riders from Canada and Trinidad and Tobago to prep for the 2011 World Cup circuit.
