LA GALAXY HOST TWO GAMES IN MARCH, INCLUDING 2010 SEASON OPENER: For the first time since capturing the 2009 Western Conference Championship in November, the LA Galaxy return to The Home Depot Center this month with two games, including an international friendly and the 2010 Season Opener. On Sun., March 21, the Galaxy will take on one of El Salvador's most beloved club's, 14-time Salvadorian champion C.D. Águila. An entertaining squad with a roster that includes four of El Salvador's National Team starters from the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying tournament, Águila, which is currently in second place of the league standings in El Salvador, will be the Galaxy's final tune-up match before beginning the 2010 MLS Season. Also on March 21, the Galaxy are hosting a fan fest outside of the Northwest Entrance of the stadium (in front of Lot 13) prior to the start of the match. Six days later, on Sat., March 27, the Galaxy will kickoff the 2010 MLS Season against the New England Revolution. CHIVAS USA OPENS SEASON ON FRIDAY, MARCH 26 AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: The days are counting down to Chivas USA's 2010 Home Opener, when the Red-and-White face the Colorado Rapids on Fri., March 26 at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. With wins in the Home Opener in each of the last four seasons, Chivas USA is looking to kick off the 2010 MLS season in style. Fans looking to come out to the match can choose from 5-game, 10-game, or the full Season Seat ticket options, with tickets going for as low as $10 per game. U.S. WNT WINS 2010 ALGARVE CUP: The U.S. Women's National Team won the 2010 Algarve Cup in southern Portugal last week, topping Germany 3-2 in the title match. The win marked the seventh time the USA has won the annual tournament and the third time it has faced Germany in the final. The match was the USA's eighth consecutive trip to the Algarve Cup championship game. The team will not be in camp through the month of March, as players report to pre-season training camps with their Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) clubs, but the U.S. U-15 Girls' will come together from March 20-27 for training. VELODROME HOSTS U.S., CANADIAN TRAINING: The U.S. and Canadian National Teams are training at The Home Depot Center Velodrome this month, in preparation for the 2010 World Championships March 21-26 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Led by current World Champion Taylor Phinney, the U.S. team is expected to place on the podium in no less than tree track cycling disciplines. Also this month, the LA Velodrome Race Series continues on Sat., March 13, featuring riders from both the U.S. and Canadian National Teams. Local riders, including Danny Heeley from San Pedro, are now among the top riders under 23 years of age in the world. THE HOME DEPOT CENTER KICKS OFF SPRING FOUNDATION EVENTS: Throughout the months of March and April, The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation is hosting two events, and will be opening phase I of the 2010 Battle of the High School Marching Bands. First, the foundation is taking applications for the 2010 Reading Garden Challenge, a joint initiative with the Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot. The Reading Garden Challenge invites schools from Carson, Compton, Gardena, Long Beach, Lomita, Lynwood, Torrance and the Beach cities, grades K-5, to focus on Earth Day (April 22) by reading Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and answering the challenge questions for the opportunity to have a Reading Garden built at their school by The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation, the Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot. In another joint initiative, the Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation are working together to present the fourth annual Easter Egg Hunt on Fri., April 2, featuring an egg hunt, a visit from the Easter Bunny and LA Galaxy mascot Cozmo, plus Galaxy players. Online registration is required and admission is $3 per child, with a portion of the fees donated to the Haitian Earthquake Relief Efforts. Lastly, phase I of the sixth Battle of the High School Marching Bands, and will be accepting applications April 1-21, calling for high schools to mail in tape submission with one video and audio \"Southern Show Style\" band performance. After a one-year hiatus, the event returns to Carson, in which eight high school marching bands will battle it out on the stadium field on Sat., Nov. 20.
