A Quick Look at The Home Depot Center Headlines for the Month of August

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER: Galaxy Play Chicago Sunday, host Real Madrid at Rose Bowl next weekend; Chivas USA hosts Seattle, D.C. in August
TRACK CYCLING: Juniors prep for UCI Jr. Track World Championships
TENNIS: USTA-West to Host Player Camps throughout August
UP NEXT IN SEPTEMBER: MLS continues as it closes in on post-season play starting in October

SHOWCASE FRIENDLY AGAINST REAL MADRID HIGHLIGHTS BUSY AUGUST FOR MLS-BEST GALAXY: Still sporting the best record in MLS, the LA Galaxy face a busy August with four league games, in addition to at least one Champions League match on the schedule, as well as the club's high-profile friendly against Real Madrid at the Rose Bowl on Aug. 7. The action starts this Sunday when the Galaxy host the Chicago Fire at 4:30 p.m. The Fire are expected to debut their newest Designated Player, Mexican international Nery Castillo, in the game, while LA will look to remain unbeaten at home this season. Immediately following the game, the Galaxy will fly to Puerto Rico for the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round series. LA was shocked in the first leg, losing 4-1 at home on July 27, meaning that the Galaxy need to win by at least three goals in order to advance to the group stage of the competition. If they can do just that, LA will host two more home games at The Home Depot Center this month, first against CD Olimpia of Honduras on Tuesday, Aug. 17 and then again eight days later against the winner of the Preliminary Round series between FAS (El Salvador) and Xelaju (Guatemala). Before the Galaxy can think about either of those games, they will have to prepare for Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid, which feature international stars such as 2010 World Cup winner Iker Casillas, Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo. This game will be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and is sure to draw one of the biggest crowds to see a soccer game in the U.S. this year. The game, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m., will be the Galaxy's second trip to the Rose Bowl in as many years, following their friendly against Barcelona that drew more than 93,000 fans last August. One week after facing Real Madrid, LA heads east to take on the newest star in MLS, Thierry Henry and the New York Red Bulls (3 p.m. on FSC/FSE) at the newest stadium in MLS, Red Bull Arena. The Galaxy are back on the road a week later when they make the short drive north to San Jose to take on the San Jose Earthquakes (1 p.m. on FS West) to complete the season series with their Northern California rivals. The Galaxy will round out the month with a home game on Aug. 28 against the Kansas City Wizards, the first team to take a point from the Galaxy this season with a 0-0 draw back in April. Former Cal State - Dominguez Hills star Kei Kamara leads the Wizards, who have not beaten the Galaxy in Carson since 2004. Also on Aug. 28, before the match, LA Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation will host How Suite It Is!, a fundraiser featuring a pre-game reception with a Marani Vodka Martini bar, EJ Gallo wine and champagne, Sprinkles cupcakes, live entertainment and more - plus, a post-game meet-and-greet with LA Galaxy players.
