Santos Laguna, Léon Announce Rosters for Copa Campéon de Campeones

Home Depot Center News

Both teams' stars expected to play in July 8 clash at The Home Depot Center

FULLERTON, Calif. - Newly crowned champions of the Mexican Príméra Division, Santos Laguna, and recently promoted champions of the Liga de Ascenso, Club Léon, have announced their preliminary travel rosters for the Copa Campéon de Campeones, to be played on July 8 at the Home Depot Center in Carson. Both teams are expected to feature all of the star players that led them to their respective championships, as well as recent high-profile signings.

Santos Laguna features a star-studded roster led by El Tri, Guadalajara and Santos Laguna legend Oswaldo Sanchez, who was the starting goalkeeper for Mexico in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The 38-year-old is joined by fellow club legend and Colombian international striker Carlos Quintero as well as by five more national team stars in Mexicans Aaron Galindo and Oribe Peralta, Christian Suárez (Ecuador), Felipe Baloy (Panama) and Priméra Divison goal-scoring phenom Hérculez Gómez (U.S.).

The impressive list of notable names is rounded out by three more legendary Santos Laguna players: former El Tri regular Juan Pablo Rodríguez, one-cap defender Jorge Iván Estrada (Mexico) and Argentine attacking midfielder Daniel Ludueña, who has averaged nearly one goal every three games in over 200 appearances with the club.

Newly promoted Club Léon recently made a major splash in the transfer market, as the five-time domestic champions have signed Mexican national team stars Jonny Magallón and Édgar Pacheco for the upcoming campaign. The pair joins a roster that also features former Mexican internationals Fernando Salazar and Christian Martínez, as well as Mexican-American defender/midfielder Marco Vidal, who was born in Dallas, Texas.

The Copa Campéon de Campeones, which will be hosted by the Blues, is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. PT on July 8. Both Santos Laguna and Club Léon are currently preparing for the high-profile match, as they are in their respective preseason training camps. While Santos Laguna recently started working out at Territorio Santos Modelo, Léon has chosen to prepare at El Bosque Country Club in Léon, Guanajuato.
