To Donate Their Spare Change For Relief Efforts

CARSON, CA (Friday, September 2, 2005) - The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation will partner with the Greater Long Beach chapter of the American Red Cross to collect donations of spare change for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, whose after-effects continue to ravage several areas along the Gulf Coast of the United States.

\"We are deeply saddened by what has happened in New Orleans and the surrounding areas,\" said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. \"We sincerely hope that the funds we collect will do a little bit to aid the many victims of Katrina.\"

The donations will be collected at each of the Galaxy's three MLS home games and their U.S. Open Cup semifinal match during the month of September at The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State University, Dominguez Hills. The game dates are: Sunday, September 4 (vs. Chicago Fire); Saturday, September 10 (vs. Colorado Rapids); Wednesday, September 14 (vs. Minnesota Thunder - U.S. Open Cup) and Sunday, September 25 (vs. Kansas City Wizards). In addition, monetary gifts will be accepted on non-game days in the reception area at The Home Depot Center.

In addition, each person making a donation of five dollars or more at the September 4 game will receive a voucher good for two (2) free tickets to the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra's outdoor pops concert at The Home Depot Center's Tennis Stadium on Labor Day (September 5). This holiday concert will include popular favorites and Tchaikovsky's beloved \"1812 Overture\" with a stirring fireworks finale! The music for this Labor Day Spectacular will range from popular hits like \"Georgia on my Mind\", and \"New York, New York\" to a medley of beloved Americana and Stars and Stripes Forever.

To launch the extensive fundraising campaign, the Galaxy Foundation will be making a contribution in the amount of $ 5,000 to the cause. In addition, AEG and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation have stepped up to give $2,500 apiece for the relief efforts.

\"It's up to all of us to lend whatever assistance we can, financial or otherwise, to our fellow Americans who have such tremendous needs during these tragic times in their lives,\" said Timothy J. Leiweke, President & CEO, AEG.  \"On behalf of AEG and all of our affiliates and employees worldwide, I pledge that our company will continue to play a role in providing assistance to the Red Cross to help this important organization provide aid, relief and hope to everyone in need at this time in their lives.  We should never forget, we are all in this together.\"

Also, several Galaxy players will have their autographed game-worn jerseys from this week's game auctioned off on www.MLSNET.com with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Red Cross to provide help in Louisiana and Mississippi. The players are: Todd Dunivant, Herculez Gomez, Kevin Hartman, Cobi Jones, Jovan Kirovski, Tyrone Marshall and Peter Vagenas. The auction will start tomorrow at 5 pm PT and will conclude Monday, September 12 at 9 am PT.
