Home Depot Center News

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Blues are excited to announce they will treat Southern California soccer fans to a duel of two Mexican heavyweights on July 8 as the USL PRO club will host a mouthwatering meeting between newly crowned champions Club Santos Laguna and fellow Priméra Division outfit Club Léon. Tickets for the 5 p.m. PT clash at The Home Depot Center in Carson start at $25 and go on sale tomorrow, Saturday, June 16 at 10 a.m.

Santos Laguna, which has won the domestic league crown four times, secured its most recent championship in May of this year with a 3-2 aggregate win over Monterrey in the final. The club features a star-studded roster led by El Tri, Guadalajara and Santos Laguna legend Oswaldo Sanchez, who was the starting goalkeeper for Mexico in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Sanchez is joined by fellow club legend and Colombian international striker Carlos Quintero as well as a quintet of national team stars in Aaron Galindo and Oribe Peralta from Mexico, Christian Suárez (Ecuador), Felipe Baloy (Panama) and Priméra Divison goal-scoring phenom Hérculez Gómez (U.S.).

The impressive list of notable names is rounded out by three more legendary Santos Laguna players; former El Tri regular Juan Pablo Rodríguez, one-cap defender Jorge Iván Estrada (Mexico) and Argentine attacking midfielder Daniel Ludueña, who has averaged nearly one goal every three games in over 200 appearances with the club.

Newly promoted Club Léon recently made a major splash in the transfer market, as the five-time domestic champions have added Mexican national team stars Jonny Magallón and Édgar Pacheco to the roster. The pair joins a team that also features former El Tri standout defender Duilio Davino, who had a stint with Major League Soccer's FC Dallas in 2008, and whose recent signing adds the experience of over 80 caps with the national team. Also on the Club Léon roster are two more ex-internationals; Fernando Salazar and Christian Martínez (both from Mexico) as well as Mexican-American defender/midfielder Marco Vidal, who was born in Dallas, Texas.

Tickets for the July 8 match go on sale tomorrow, Saturday, June 11 and are available for as low as $25. Other tickets in the 27,000-seat soccer stadium are available at $35, $50 and $100. Fans can purchase tickets at AXS.com or by phone at 888-9-AXS-TIX (888-929-7849), as well as The Home Depot Center Box Office (open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
