CARSON, CALIF. (Thursday, July 3, 2014) – Mexican powerhouse Cruz Azul F.C., announced the 19-man roster for the upcoming international friendly against Club Deportivo Guadalajara on Wednesday, July 9 (11:00 p.m. ET) at StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Cruz Azul, also known as La Máquina Cementera ranks first all-time with six CONCACAF Champions League titles (previously known as CONCACAF Champions’ Cup) and have been champions of the Mexican first division league a total of eight times, which historically places them in fourth overall. The roster is led by Christian Giménez, former World Cup players Gerardo Torrado and Pablo Barrera, and former San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Rafael Baca.
Midfielder Gerardo Torrado, also known as El Borrego, has been with the club since 2005 after a six-year spell in Spain where he played for CD Tenerife, Poli Ejido, Sevilla FC and Racing Santander. In addition, Torrado has played for the Mexican National Team since 1999, competing in three World Cups (2002, 2006 and 2010) and was named the vice-captain of the team that travelled to South Africa in 2010. He has played in a total of 146 games for the Mexican National Team with six goals.
One of the most historic and successful clubs in Mexico, Chivas has captured 11 first division titles in and has raised two Copa México trophies. Additionally, the 108-year-old team is the only club in Mexico to exclusively field Mexican players, a concept that has made Chivas a steady contributor of players to the Mexican National Team. Standout players include former Sporting Kansas City forward Omar Bravo, Aldo DeNigris, the 2012 Olympic gold medalists Jorge Enriquez and Antonio Rodriguez, as well as the FIFA Under-17 world champions Carlos Fierro and Patricio Araujo.
