LONDON (Wednesday, July 12, 2017) – American Sam Querrey defeated tournament No. 1 seed Andy Murray of England 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1 in the Wimbledon quarterfinals Wednesday morning. Querrey will next face Marin Čilić of Crotia on Friday, July 14 at 5 a.m. PT.

It’s the second straight year that Querrey has taken down the No. 1 seed at Wimbledon. Last year, he defeated Novak Djokovic in the third round on his way to the first major quarterfinal of his career.

With the win, Querrey reaches a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in his career. It’s the first time an American man has done so since Andy Roddick was the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2009.

Querrey, who trains regularly at StubHub Center, won USTA’s International Springs Championships at StubHub Center at the age of 17.
