Commitments Include 20 Percent Reduction in Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA, Nov. 15, 2012 - Today, AEG, a leading sports and entertainment company, released its second Sustainability Report, the only sustainability report in the live sports and entertainment industry. The groundbreaking report contains metrics, collected from 58 venues from within AEG's global network of elite venues, detailing AEG's progress towards its previously announced 2020 Environmental Vision Goals including reducing solid waste and water usage at all of its owned and managed facilities worldwide, including STAPLES Center in Los Angeles The Home Depot Center in Carson, The O2 arena in London, Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, Verizon Theater at Grand Prairie in Dallas, Best Buy Theatre in New York City, Ontario's Citizens Business Bank Arena and more than a dozen venues in Australia and Asia.

AEG's commitment to introducing environmental sustainability standards to the industry has previously been represented at STAPLES Center, Rose Garden (Portland, OR), Target Center (Minneapolis, MN), Cairns Convention Centre (Cairns, Australia) and The O2 (London, UK), with groundbreaking investments in solar power, LEED-certified green building design and operations, and responsible water management as important steps to achieving these goals. With AEG 1EARTH, the company continues its coordinated and tracked efforts to engage employees, fans and partners in an every day effort to improve the environment.

AEG's 2012 Sustainability Report shares the organization's progress towards the 2020 Environmental Vision Goals including:

  • Decreased carbon emissions by 10% per attendee in 2011, compared with 2010.
  • 18.5% of total energy consumption is derived from renewable sources.
  • 8 venues currently divert more than 75% of waste from landfill and overall waste.
  • Total solid waste diverted from landfill has increased from 31% in 2007 to 42% in 2011.
  • Water use per guest has fallen 16% from 2007 to 2011, putting AEG well on target to meet its 2020 environmental vision goal.
  • Use of recycled water increased by 88% from 2007 to 2011.

AEG released its second Sustainability Report today at its L.A. LIVE Sports and Entertainment District during an event associated with America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling programs in the United States, by educating, motivating and inspiring people to recycle. For the third consecutive year, this event has been designated as the official public recycling location in Los Angeles for the collection of e-waste.
